Has knife crime effecting house nights?

Usually music industry websites like Allourdaze avoid becoming entangled in topical social issues. After all we are part of the entertainment business – a long way from the wacky world of politics. But current concerns over what seems like a tidal wave of knife crime, stabbings and killings, clearly impinges on clubs and youth culture and inevitably the music scene. The question we asked was Has knife crime effecting house nights?

Maybe the first thing we should do is pause to consider whether the situation really is as bad as daily headlines and news bulletins suggest or whether it is simply a media frenzy. The Government have certainly recognized the issue and are now implementing new laws.

How long therefore before this perception begins to effect attendance at clubs and music gigs?

And what can be done to ensure people are safe when in clubs – and just as important, feel safe?

There are plenty of ideas. The other day I raised the issue on clubbing site 'Don't Stay in' (promoters group) and within minutes a steady stream of
suggestions began emerging.

For promoters of course there are several factors. The most obvious - stepping up security on the door. But how far should this go? Clubs want to assure visitors they take safety seriously but also need to avoid seeming oppressive.

People go out to have a good time and most don’t want to go somewhere where they fear there could be violence and danger. Up to now there is no evidence fears over possible violence are deterring people from going to clubs, certainly not House events.

At first glance more use of airport-style metal detectors may look a good choice. Many clubs have been using these for years but not all – so should detectors become a standard condition for obtaining a licence. For smaller clubs that might prove a difficulty, as detectors ain’t cheap while staff need to know how to use and monitor them.

With out wanting to make light of a very serious issue perhaps we should leave it with Smartie Party (SP) who suggested the answer is naked clubbing. Which in itself isn’t a bad idea but the funny thing is SP also wanted to extend this to airports too which could be a tad embarrassing especially when you’re stepping off the over night flight straight out into a freezing Gatwick morning.

On a slightly more serious note, your thoughts are welcome.

The knife crime bit

The knife crime feature is pretty much finished now. A  link to this blog at the bottom and we're done. Thank god. Really wasn't sure whether to include a piece on knife crime as AOD is a music company specialising in house music and not the The Guardian but my marketing guru suggested the idea and it just seemed so topical. We'll see how many people click on the piece to see how effective it is. The debate will hopefully continue on the blog..

I'm Alive - Essential new tune

The remix of 'I'm Alive' (Stretch & Vern) was Pete Tong's essential new tune this week.

The hype is building around this tune.

Check the Adam Shaw mix http://allourdaze.com/silvester.htm

Please contact info@allourdaze.com for any Stretch Silvester bookins.

Monday Monday

Been really busy today. Responding to all the requests for the Cr2 album launch dates. Looks like we've secured a London date as well as Brighton, Leeds, Sheffield, Russia and Brazil.

Also working on this months newsletter which is getting sent out on Thursday and I'm trying to sort out my accounts which I really must get round to.

The bookings is just one side of the business - the accounts and admin is the other side which is equally as important. I tend to focus on the sales side as bookings brings in the money but if my accounts aren't sorted then everyting will fall down so its something I need to do this week.

The joy!

The Girls Look Good

Getting a good response to the 'Delicious & Abigail Bailey album launch parties' email that I sent out this morning. Quite a few enquiries have come in already. It would be great to get a few confirmations today.

'Bounce' the track the girls have produced sounds really good and should help. The artwork to the album is also pretty cool. Check the packshot http://www.allourdaze.com/emails/pack.jpg

As mentioned Friday is tie up day so working on the Cr2 album obvioulsy but also a client in Poland is looking to book a female DJ so I've put up Lizzie Curious and Rae. Two new girls I've just come across who could be good. (http://lizziecurious.com/).

Check The Video

It's not stopped raining for two days and my email is playing up but apart from that things are pretty good at AOD towers. Lots of requests coming in which is nice, especially as July is meant to be a quiet month for bookings.

While promoters head off to Ibiza and UK club numbers tend to drop during the summer months as people enjoy the sun. Drinking during the day sometimes means their in no fit state to go to a hot and sticky nightclub. However we continue and figure that if we can do good business when its meant to be quiet then we'll do great business once things get going again come September.

The big news today is that Abigail's video for 'Runaway' is now finished and can be viewed at

Abigail Live & Direct

I've just had a meeting with the lovely Sam from IMD. We met to discuss 'Delicious & Abigail Bailey Live & Direct' which is an album forthcoming on Mark Brown's Cr2 label. The album is released early September and we're looking to secure promotional tour dates. I'm going to spend the rest of the day contacting the major UK promoters to see if they'd like to take a date.

I've also been speaking to my good friend Jon Hewitt from Liverpool about a possible booking for Jocelyn Brown and Candy Staton. Jon has started a night based around divas and judging from the success he enjoyed with Robin S last month it looks like the night could do really well.

I'll start working on this month's AOD newsletter this week too - the main story will be whether gun and knife crime has effected House nights in the UK so if you have any thoughts on that please drop me a line.

Friday Is Tie Up Day

Fridays are always a good day to tie up bookings that have been worked through the week. There's nothing better than contracting bookings which have been hanging around and thats what  I've been doing today. Abigail has been booked into Liverpool for the August bank holiday Sunday and I've just contracted her new date at Junk club Southampton for Fri 12 Sept.

The bookings for Stretch are coming in and hopefully two dates have been confirmed - not contracted as yet but I'm working on it. You can hear the new mixes of 'I'm Alive' at www.allourdaze.com/silvester.htm

Matt Samuels has two new dates in Italy this September and Fran Cosgrave has been booked into Edge Hill uni for Thursday 25 September.

All in all its been a good week and best of all we finally started to blog.

have a good weekend.

Stretched

Have been really busy this week working on Stretch Silvester's diary which is currently filling up nicely thanks to the re-release of the Stretch & Vern class 'I'm Alive'. With numerous plays on Tong's show the track looks like doing really well second time around. Hit me on my bleeper if you're interested in taking a date.
